The skies above Colombo’s Galle Face Green were transformed into a canvas of color and creativity over the weekend as the Colombo International Kite Festival 2025 brought together kite enthusiasts from around the globe.
Held on August 23 and 24, 2025, the vibrant event attracted participants from 25 countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Indonesia, France, Australia, China, Thailand, South Korea, India, and Singapore.
They joined nearly 500 local kite flyers from Sri Lanka in showcasing spectacular designs and aerial artistry.
The festival featured kites in the shapes of elephants, leopards, pandas, snakes, and exotic birds, dazzling the thousands of spectators who gathered along Colombo’s scenic seafront.
International stunt kite pilots added to the spectacle with aerobatic performances, blending sport with artistry.
Organized by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and Derana Media Network, the festival was part of the Colombo Destination Branding Project, an initiative aimed at promoting the capital city as a vibrant cultural and tourism hub.
Officials hailed the event as a success, noting how it showcased Colombo’s potential as a global meeting point for culture, art, and community.
Beyond the breathtaking visuals, the gathering fostered international camaraderie, drawing families, travelers, and kite enthusiasts into a shared celebration of creativity.
