Grammy-winning rapper Lil Nas X (Montero Lamar Hill) pleaded not guilty on Monday to four felony charges following his arrest in Los Angeles last week.
He faces three counts of battery causing injury to police officers and one count of resisting an executive officer.
A Los Angeles judge set bail at $75,000 and required his participation in Narcotics Anonymous meetings, pending trial.
The arrest occurred on August 21 when police responded to calls of a nearly naked man walking along Ventura Boulevard in Studio City.
Video footage showed Lil Nas X wearing only white underwear and cowboy boots. Upon arrival, officers say he charged at them, prompting his detention.
He was briefly hospitalized following a possible overdose before being booked.
At his arraignment in Van Nuys, Lil Nas X waived his initial appearance and entered a not guilty plea. In addition to bail, the court has ordered conditions including narcotics program attendance.
He is scheduled for another court date in mid-September.
The case has sparked widespread media attention due in part to Lil Nas X’s rising career and personal struggles.
Since first rising to fame with 2019’s “Old Town Road,” he has broken records and made history as the first openly gay artist to win a Country Music Association award.
