Kano Chief Judge Applauds EFCC’s Adherence To Rule Of Law

The Chief Judge of Kano State, Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for its strict compliance with the provisions of the law, particularly the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, 2015, in its investigative processes.

She gave the commendation on Thursday, August 28, 2025 when she received the newly appointed Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC, Kano Zonal Directorate, Deputy Commander of EFCC, DCE Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, who paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Kano.

The judge specifically highlighted the Commission’s diligence in adhering to the ACJA provisions regarding the taking of confessional statements, a critical element in upholding the integrity of criminal prosecutions.

In his opening remarks, the Ag. Zonal Director stated that the essence of his visit was to cement the existing robust collaboration between the EFCC and the Judiciary and to solicit continued support and accommodation from the bench.

He, however, lamented the recent high volume of restraining orders being issued against the Commission, noting that such orders often automatically hinder the EFCC from effectively executing its mandate of investigating and prosecuting economic and financial crimes.

To ensure expediency in the dispensation of justice, Sa’ad urged the CJ to consider designating specific judges to handle EFCC cases, a practice known capable of peeding up trial processes

In her response, Justice Aboki assured the Ag. Zonal Director that the judiciary would continue to do its utmost to fulfil its responsibilities within the ambit of the law. She urged the EFCC to continuously enhance the capacity of its personnel, particularly its investigators, to ensure efficient and effective prosecution of cases.

Addressing the concern on restraining orders, the CJ assured Sa’ad that judges under her purview would always ensure that there is sufficient and compelling evidence to warrant the granting of such orders before they are issued.
