A 34-year-old British woman has been killed in Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh in what police are describing as a “love triangle” attack.
The victim, identified as Jessica Cariad Hopkins, was found fatally wounded in a park in the Chamkar Mon district on Friday.
Cambodia’s national police reported that she had multiple stab injuries.
Authorities arrested 33-year-old Congolese national Kidikila Nganda Glodie at a nearby beauty salon in connection with the killing.
Local reports say investigators spent nearly 17 hours gathering evidence before making the arrest.
Hopkins, who had been renting a house in Phnom Penh, was well-known in the expatriate community, according to people familiar with the case.
Police are continuing to question the suspect and examining whether personal relationships were at the center of the crime.
The UK Foreign Office confirmed it is providing consular support to Hopkins’ family and remains in contact with Cambodian authorities as the investigation continues.
The stabbing has shocked the local community and raised concerns about safety for foreign residents in the city.
Cambodian police say they will release further details once the inquiry progresses.
