CVR: Online Pre-registration Hits 2.5m In 2 Weeks

A total of 2,532,062 Nigerians have pre-registered online in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in two weeks.

Similarly, 72,274 citizens have either completed the pre-registration process or registered afresh in the in-person registration aspect of the exercise.

Summitpost reports that while the online pre-registration started on August 18, the in-person
registration commenced on August 25, 2025.

National Commissioner and Chairman of Information & Voter Education Committee of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Sam Olumekun disclosed these in a statement issued at the end of the Commission’s regular session in Abuja on Tuesday.

Olumekun said the introduction of the pre-registration option in 2021 has enabled Nigerians to commence the online process from anywhere in the world for 24 hours daily including weekends.

He however, noted that all online pre-registrants were required to appear physically to complete the process at INEC’s 811 state and local government offices nationwide where their fingerprints and facial biometric details will be captured.

“This instruction is clearly stated on the online portal. We urge all online pre-registrants to complete the process in-person at the INEC designated registration centres without which the online process alone is invalid,”Olumekun stated.

According to the details of the distribution of registrants at the end of week two of the online registration by state, Osun topped with 474,372, followed by Lagos (355,372), Ogun (265,399) and FCT(152,250), while Ebonyi recorded the least figure of 490.

The breakdown of the online registration also showed that women led with 1.3 million and men recorded 1.2 million by gender.

The age distribution indicated that youths come highest with 1.6 million, middle age (615,809), elderly persons (279,218) and old persons (34,551) respectively while students topped under occupation with 647,528.

For the in-person registration, 35,622 (49.29%) are male and 36,652 (50.71%) are female. In terms of age and occupation, majority, 54,718, representing 75.71% are between the ages of 18 and 34, while 30,953 (42.83%) are students.
