Banditry Allegations: Arewa Youths Petition IGP To Investigate Sen Buba

The Arewa Youth Movement (AYM), on Friday, petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take immediate and decisive action against Senator Shehu Umar Buba over alleged links with banditry and violent crimes in Northern Nigeria.

The youth group urged the police chief to launch a thorough investigation into the matter, stressing that public officials must be held accountable regardless of their status.

AYM spokesperson, Comrade Yahaya Muhammed Garba, disclosed this in Abuja, during a press briefing, said the region’s worsening insecurity has been compounded by the alleged complicity of highly placed individuals who aid criminal networks.

Garba expressed deep concern over recent revelations, including a video purportedly showing the transfer of motorcycles and cash from Senator Buba’s residence to bandits in Zamfara.

He further alleged that the lawmaker has ties with notorious bandit leaders, facilitated medical treatment for wounded fighters, and incited violence in parts of Bauchi and Plateau States.

He also commended ongoing federal security initiatives but insisted that progress is being undermined by individuals within the political class who allegedly provide protection to criminals.

Garba said: “Reports of his moving
wounded bandits for medical treatment and inciting violence in Tafawa Balewa, as well as his links to violent incidents in Plateau State, are early unacceptable.

“Senator Buba’s actions represent a gross abuse of power, as he appears to be using his position to support criminal elements and undermine the rule of law. We must not allow such behavior to go unchecked, for it sets a dangerous precedent that threatens the very foundation of our democracy.

“A Call to the Inspector General of Police
In light of these grave concerns, we call upon the Inspector General of Police to take immediate and decisive action against Senator Shehu Umar Buba.

“We demand a thorough investigation into his activities and a commitment to prosecuting him to the fullest extent of the law. It is crucial that we send a strong message: no one, regardless of their position or influence, is above the law.

The group reaffirmed its resolve to continue advocating for justice, peace, and the safety of Northern communities, urging security agencies to restore public confidence through swift and transparent action.

He added, “The Impact of Kidnaping and Ransom Demands Kidnaping has emerged as a lucrative enterprise for criminal elements, targeting individuals across various sectors for ransom. This alarming trend has created a climate of fear, as families live in constant dread of the possibility of abduction.

“The economic implications are dire; businesses suffer, investments dwindle, and community trust erodes. The fabric of our society is being torn apart, and it is imperative that we confront this menace with unwavering resolve. Challenges Faced by Security Personnel
Our brave security personnel are on the front lines, valiantly combating the escalating violence that threatens our communities.

“However, they face significant challenges, often outnumbered and lacking the necessary resources to effectively counter the ultimate tide of criminality. Many have made the ultimate sacrifice, losing their lives or enduring severe injuries in the line of duty. Their morale is tested daily, and it is our responsibility as a society to support them in their noble mission to protect our citizens.”
