A dramatic rescue operation unfolded in Trinidad on Sunday, as police freed kidnapped Caribbean Airlines pilot Daniel Kawall, 59. Kawall was found alive in a residential area of Maraval, on the outskirts of the capital, following a coordinated investigation led by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU).
According to reports, Kawall was kidnapped last Wednesday, and his Toyota Hilux was spotted that night in Cascade, where residents heard screams coming from the vehicle. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of TT$1 million on Friday morning, prompting an intense manhunt.
During the rescue operation, one suspect was killed, and two others were arrested after attempting to withdraw cash from Kawall’s bank card at an ATM. The AKU, supported by the Coastal and Riverine Unit and other tactical teams, carried out the coordinated effort.
Kawall, a resident of Valsayn North and business owner in Piarco, was taken to the hospital for treatment after his rescue. The police confirmed the successful operation, bringing relief to Kawall’s family and the airline.
