The Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory has declared a seven-day warning strike, a move that is expected to disrupt medical services across major hospitals in Abuja.
The development was announced on Monday through a communiqué jointly signed by the association’s president, Dr. George Ebong, and members of the executive council. According to the doctors, the decision became necessary following what they described as persistent neglect of the health sector in the territory, which they say has left them overwhelmed and the system dangerously overstretched.
Dr. Ebong lamented that resident doctors are compelled to cover multiple departments at the same time due to poor staffing and inadequate resources. He warned that such conditions not only put enormous strain on the doctors but also jeopardize the quality of healthcare delivery to patients.
