A deadly shooting struck Jerusalem on Monday morning when two gunmen opened fire on passengers at a bus stop and on a bus traveling through Ramot Junction, a busy intersection in northern Jerusalem.
At least five people were killed and up to 15 others injured, including several in critical condition. Among the wounded was a pregnant woman.
Eyewitnesses described panic as bullets shattered windows and passengers rushed to escape.
The attack began shortly after 10 a.m. when the assailants opened fire with improvised Carlo-style submachine guns, weapons often used in previous West Bank militant attacks.
Security forces on the scene, assisted by armed civilians, quickly returned fire and neutralized both attackers.
Emergency responders, including Magen David Adom paramedics, treated the wounded on site before transporting them to nearby hospitals.
Access roads to Ramot Junction were temporarily sealed as Israeli police and security agencies launched an investigation.
Hamas praised the shooting, calling it a “heroic operation,” and urged Palestinians to step up similar actions. Israeli officials condemned the assault, describing it as part of a broader wave of violence targeting civilians.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the site soon after the attack, receiving briefings from police and defense leaders.
The shooting is being called one of the deadliest incidents in Jerusalem in recent years, reigniting concerns of further unrest in the city and the wider region.
The attack adds to rising tensions across Israel and the West Bank, with fears that more violence could follow in thedays ahead.
