The National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kamaldeen Ajibade, has cautioned that the party risks losing the 2027 presidential election if it fails to resolve its internal disputes.
Speaking at the PDP National Restoration Movement Summit in Abuja, Ajibade, alongside the Movement’s National President, Joseph Onuoha, emphasized the urgent need for reconciliation and unity within the party.
“A fractured PDP cannot heal a fractured nation. Only by restoring internal harmony and democracy can we present ourselves as the credible alternative Nigerians are seeking,” Ajibade stated.
Party stakeholders fear that unresolved disagreements could resurface ahead of 2027, further weakening the PDP’s chances against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He further noted: “A house divided cannot stand. If the PDP remains divided, it cannot win elections and it cannot save Nigeria.”
Ajibade also highlighted the party’s past achievements under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, including strengthening democracy, attracting foreign investment, and reforms in telecommunications, banking, and pensions.
“Unity demands sacrifice. While ambition is natural, when it endangers the party’s survival, it becomes harmful,” he added.
He stressed that restoring unity would not only boost the PDP’s electoral chances but also inspire renewed confidence among Nigerians in the nation’s future.
“Let me be clear—restoring unity in the PDP is restoring Nigeria’s survival. A united house can withstand any storm,” Ajibade concluded.
