A fatal crash occurred on Saturday morning along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at New Garage, leaving one person dead and nine others injured.
The accident happened at about 6:55 a.m. and involved a white Iveco truck with registration number MEK 34 XC and a white Toyota commercial bus with registration number ENU 814 XJ. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the collision claimed the life of a male passenger, while nine other passengers, including eight men and one woman, sustained different levels of injuries.
Emergency responders from the FRSC arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, moving the injured to the Emergency Centre in Ojota and Gbagada General Hospital for treatment. The deceased was taken to Real Divine Hospital Mortuary in Ibafo. The damaged vehicles were later moved away by the police from Ojodu Abiodun Division to ease traffic on the busy highway.
Preliminary findings from officials suggest that speeding and road obstruction contributed to the crash. The Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged drivers to adopt safer driving habits, especially during the ember months when accident rates are known to rise. He also reassured the public of the agency’s dedication to maintaining safety on major roads and protecting lives and property.
