The Lagos State Police Command has opened a forensic investigation into the death of former Ondo State governorship candidate, Mr. Bamidele Akingboye.
The development comes after images of his remains surfaced on social media, showing injuries on his head. The circulation of the photograph has raised questions about whether his death was natural, as earlier reports had claimed he passed peacefully at his home in the Victoria Garden City area of Lagos on Wednesday.
Following the concerns, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Olohundare Jimoh, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to handle the case. Detectives from the unit, together with the Command’s Crime Scene Investigation team, have since visited the residence where the body was found to begin gathering evidence.
The police explained that the investigation will seek to establish the actual circumstances that led to Akingboye’s death. Meanwhile, human rights groups have also called for transparency and fairness in the process to ensure clarity on the matter.
