Former United States President Donald Trump has announced plans to sue the New York Times, seeking $15 billion in damages.
He revealed that the case is being filed in Florida and described it as a defamation and libel suit against the newspaper.
Trump accused the New York Times of spreading false information about him, his family, his businesses, and his political movement. He claimed the paper had for years misrepresented him and his allies, though he did not provide proof to back his allegations.
The legal action comes after recent reports that linked Trump to a controversial birthday note involving the late Jeffrey Epstein, an allegation he has denied. The former president has also increased his confrontations with the media since returning to office, targeting journalists and outlets he sees as unfair or hostile.
This is not the first time Trump has taken legal steps against major news organizations. In July, he sued Rupert Murdoch and The Wall Street Journal for $10 billion over an article concerning his relationship with Epstein. Around the same period, Paramount reached a $16 million settlement with Trump after he challenged CBS News’ “60 Minutes” program, claiming an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris was edited in a way that favored her.
The New York Times has yet to issue an official response to Trump’s latest lawsuit.
