A fresh flood has struck Adamawa State, leaving many households without shelter and destroying properties across several communities.
The incident happened on Tuesday after heavy rainfall began around 4 a.m. and continued until midday. The downpour, which lasted for more than six hours, caused water to overflow into worship centres, homes, and business premises in different parts of the state capital.
In areas such as Damilu, along the airport road, residents struggled to evacuate their families as the water entered their houses and swept away belongings. Communities in Jambutu, Bachure, Runde, and Shinko within Yola North Local Government Area were also badly affected, forcing thousands of people to stay by the roadside after losing access to their homes.
The Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency confirmed that no deaths had been recorded as of Tuesday. Rescue teams from the agency, the police, the fire service, and other security operatives were deployed to assist victims and move stranded residents to safety.
The police command in the state also sent out its marine unit to help those trapped by the flood. Senior officers, including the state commissioner of police, visited several of the affected locations such as Limiwa, Rumde, Shinko, and Jambutu to assess the level of destruction and provide help where needed.
Authorities have urged people living in flood-prone areas to stay away from danger zones and take steps to protect their families and property while emergency response teams continue with rescue operations.
