An 18-year-old girl, Imayen Ekanem, has been taken into custody in St. Johns County, Florida, for allegedly making an online threat to open fire at a vigil held in memory of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
She was arrested on Sunday after authorities received reports about a post she made on her private Snapchat story.
According to the arrest report, Ekanem posted a screenshot related to the local vigil with captions suggesting that anyone who attended would be targeted. The post was circulated among Snapchat users before being flagged to law enforcement, prompting an immediate response from deputies.
Ekanem admitted to making the post after finishing her work shift at a Zaxby’s location in the county. Investigators said she allowed deputies to search her phone, which was used to create the threatening message.
She has been charged with a felony count of written threats to kill, cause bodily harm, or carry out a mass shooting or act of terrorism. Following her arrest, Ekanem was booked into the St. Johns County Jail with no bond.
The vigil she referred to in her post took place on Sunday at Veterans Park in St. Johns County, drawing members of the community who gathered to honor Kirk after his death.
