
The Catholic community in Nsukka, Enugu State, has been thrown into mourning after the killing of Rev. Fr. Matthew Eya, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka.
The tragic incident happened on Friday along the Eha-Alumonah–Eha-Ndiagu road in Nsukka Local Government Area. According to residents, the priest was attacked while driving his cream-coloured Toyota Corolla. His car, later found at the scene, was riddled with bullets and stained with blood, while parishioners who rushed to the site were seen crying in grief.
The Catholic Diocese of Nsukka has confirmed the death, describing it as a painful loss to the church and community. The Chancellor of the Diocese, Fr. Cajetan Iyidobi, announced the passing of the priest and called on the faithful to remain steadfast in prayers, seeking comfort in God during this time of sorrow.
As of the time of this report, security operatives had not issued an official statement on the killing. Meanwhile, residents of Nsukka remain in shock over the violent attack that claimed the life of the cleric.
