A two-storey building collapsed on Wednesday evening at Mangoro Bus Stop in the Alimosho area of Lagos State, leaving one man injured and five others rescued.
The incident happened around 6:00 p.m. at 4 Modupeola Street, when the structure suddenly gave way, trapping residents inside. A 44-year-old man who lives on Olabode Street in the same area was pulled out of the rubble with fractures and bruises. He was taken by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed he was stable and admitted him into the surgical emergency ward.
Five other victims were rescued from the debris and moved to a private hospital in the neighbourhood for treatment. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, joined by other first responders, led the rescue operations. Videos shared online showed emergency workers clearing the rubble and helping those trapped.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the collapse. The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said investigations are ongoing while assuring that those injured are receiving proper medical attention.
This collapse adds to a string of similar incidents in Lagos in recent months. In May, three members of a family lost their lives after an uncompleted building came down in Ikorodu. In July, four people narrowly escaped death when another structure collapsed at Adeniji-Adele Road in Isale Eko.
The recurring building failures have raised concerns about construction standards and safety in the state, as residents continue to live under the fear of such disasters.
