The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of six suspected cultists linked to the killing of Police Constable Oboh Goodluck.
The officer was attacked and murdered on August 19 while on his way to work in the OMPADEC area of Amarata community, Yenagoa.
The arrests were disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, during the burial rites of the late officer held on Friday in Yenagoa. He said that investigations are ongoing and other suspects involved in the case will also be tracked down.
The commissioner cautioned those targeting police personnel to desist, stressing that the law would take its course against anyone involved in such acts. He assured the family of the deceased that justice would be pursued and also encouraged officers of the command that the leadership of the police force remains committed to protecting them.
Idu further noted that a request would be sent to Governor Douye Diri to designate the location where Constable Goodluck was killed as a monument site in his memory.
At the burial ceremony, Comrade Kwokwo Robert, who represented the Ayadei/Oboh family, expressed gratitude to the police for their support during the funeral and called for justice to be served over the killing of the young officer.
