US President Donald Trump on Friday demanded that Microsoft remove Lisa Monaco, its President of Global Affairs, citing her past role in Democratic administrations and her work as deputy attorney general under Joe Biden.
Trump made his appeal through a post on his Truth Social platform, insisting that Monaco’s position within Microsoft gives her access to sensitive information despite her ties to a government that pursued criminal cases against him. He described her role as a threat to national security, pointing to Microsoft’s extensive contracts with the US government.
According to Trump, Monaco has already been stripped of security clearances and barred from federal properties. He argued that keeping her in a senior position at a company deeply involved in government projects is unacceptable.
The move comes amid Trump’s broader campaign to act against his political rivals. Just a day earlier, former FBI director James Comey, a longtime critic of Trump, was indicted on two criminal charges. Trump said he expects more indictments to follow.
Monaco’s hiring at Microsoft has drawn attention because of her long history in public service, including her time in the Justice Department. Her critics, led by Trump, argue that her past makes her unfit to hold a position of influence in a major company working closely with Washington.
Trump himself has faced multiple investigations since leaving office in 2021. His Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago, was raided by the FBI in 2022 as part of an inquiry into classified documents, and he was also charged with attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Those cases, however, were dropped after he won the 2024 presidential election, in keeping with the Justice Department’s practice of not prosecuting a sitting president.
