The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, has shed light on the town’s ancestral heritage, stating that the founder of Asaba, Kainebisi, had Igala roots.
According to the monarch, Kainebisi’s father was from Igala, while his mother hailed from Nteje.
“The father of our founding father was, undoubtedly, from Igala and his mother hailed from Nteje. His mother was not from Asaba, so she could not have been our progenitor. But his father was,” the Asagba explained.
This clarification comes as part of the Asagba’s efforts to set the historical record straight about Asaba’s origins. He emphasized that Asaba’s founding father, Kainebisi, is revered by the people, and any development in the town must be linked to him.
The Asagba’s statement reads: “We are gathered here to commission the statue of the founding father of Asaba, our progenitor and source of our beginning.”
He also corrected the long-held notion that Nnebisi was the founder’s name, saying the correct name is Kainebisi, which was derived from “KAINEBISI MALI IFE NWAA GA ABU,” meaning “Let’s watch and see what this child will be.”
