Cashless Operation Will End Cash Handling Delays At Airports – FAAN MD

The Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, said on Monday in Abuja that the cashless operation would end cash handling delays at Nigeria’s airports.

Kuku , who was represented by Ms Adebola Agunbiade, the Director, Commercial and Business Development Directorate at FAAN, said this while officially inaugurating “Operation Go Cashless“ at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport(NAIA), Abuja.

“Effective Sept. 29, 2025, we have started phasing out physical cash at all FAAN revenue points, including access gates, car parks, and VIP lounges.

“For you, our passengers, this means faster, more secure transactions and an end to the delays of cash handling. It is a direct response to your call for modern, efficient, and world-class service.

“Following its successful launch in the dynamic city of Lagos, I am proud to officially announce the full deployment of ‘Operation Go Cashless’ here in Abuja, the Centre of Excellence,” she said.

Kuku said that the system would be comprehensive, cashless, and contactless payment solution for all airports nationwide.

She said that instant payment would be made with a simple tap of the new FAAN contactless card, the technology which would be fast, convenient and hygienic.

“ The card features a unified wallet, meaning a single balance can be used across multiple registered cards, perfect for easy management for families or corporate users.

“ It is available to all users, including our valued international travellers, and once registered, it has nationwide validity across all FAAN-managed airports.

“Your security is our priority. You will receive real-time SMS notifications for every transaction and can monitor your balance and history via a secure online dashboard, “ the FAAN boss said.

Kuku, who explained that the card could instantly be blocked through the dashboard if the card was lost or stolen, urged airport users to ensure their funds were always protected.

“To ensure a smooth transition, we have deployed trained ambassadors to assist you. Furthermore, comprehensive customer support is available via our dedicated hotline, email, and physical help desks.

`Beyond this unparalleled passenger convenience, this initiative is a cornerstone of our strategy for enhanced accountability and sustainable revenue growth.

“It creates a traceable financial environment, aligns us with global standards, and strengthens Nigeria’s position as a ready partner for international business,” she said.

Kuku affirmed that the new FAAN contactless airport card was available now.

She commended President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Aviation, Mr Festus Keyamo, for their steadfast support towards the new technology, driven by efficiency, and dedicated to serving passenger`s better.

Speaking, the NAIA Airport Manager, Mr Rindap Domtur, who praised the initiative, expressed optimism that the cashless system would end challenges encountered at the NAIA access gate during cash handling process. (NAN)
