Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong has expressed delight at being part of the Nigerian delegation to the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly holding in Geneva, Switzerland.
The assembly brings together legislators from around the world to deliberate under the theme, “Upholding Humanitarian Norms and Supporting Humanitarian Action in Times of Crisis.”
Senator Ekpenyong who represents Cross River South at Red Chambers Street f the National Assembly described the theme as timely and significant, noting that the world is currently faced with numerous conflicts, displacement, and humanitarian emergencies that require collective legislative attention.
He emphasized the importance of global cooperation in addressing these challenges and expressed optimism that the deliberations would yield practical solutions to improve humanitarian responses worldwide.
According to him, the assembly offers an opportunity for lawmakers to exchange ideas and strengthen international parliamentary my collaboration toward promoting peace, human rights, and humanitarian values.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union, founded in 1889, is the global organization of national parliaments dedicated to promoting democracy, dialogue, peace, and cooperation among nations. It provides a platform for parliamentarians to discuss global issues and adopt resolutions that encourage effective governance and respect for international law.
The 151st IPU Assembly is expected to produce resolutions that will guide member parliaments in enhancing legislative frameworks for humanitarian support and crisis management.
