The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has restated the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that the South South Development Commission achieves its core mandate of driving socio economic transformation in the South South region.
Senator Akume gave the assurance when the Managing Director of the South South Development Commission, Ms Usoro Akpabio, visited him to explore areas of collaboration aimed at accelerating development in the region in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The SGF commended Ms Akpabio for her vision and commitment towards fulfilling the Commission’s mandate. He noted that the Federal Government is determined to change the development narrative of the South South and ensure the region benefits from meaningful and sustainable growth.
Senator Akume reaffirmed the Federal Government’s readiness to support SSDC programmes in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that the administration remains committed to promoting equitable regional development.
In her remarks, Ms Akpabio expressed appreciation for the SGF’s assurances and restated the Commission’s readiness to work closely with relevant federal and state institutions to deliver tangible results that will improve the lives of people across the South South region.
Discussions by both parties during the visit focused on key development priorities such as poverty reduction programmes, environmental remediation, flood and erosion control, and youth empowerment initiatives designed to promote ecological sustainability and inclusive growth.
The meeting centred on strengthening collaboration and improving inter governmental engagement to advance Presidential Intervention Initiatives across the region.
