Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned that Iran could face internal collapse if Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei were harmed.
Pezeshkian emphasised that Khamenei is the “pillar of the country’s tent” and urged political factions to avoid polarisation and stand firmly behind him.
“There would be no need for Israel to intervene,” Pezeshkian said, highlighting the potential for internal clashes if Khamenei were targeted. He made these remarks during a parliamentary review of his government’s first year under the Seventh Development Plan.
Pezeshkian’s comments come amid growing tensions between Iran and Israel, particularly after a 12-day war in June. He stressed that internal discipline, dialogue, and cooperation are essential to prevent political infighting that could surpass any external threat.
“We cannot govern while people go hungry,” Pezeshkian said, urging lawmakers to prioritize livelihoods and work towards a deficit-free budget.
The Iranian president’s warning underscores the significance of Khamenei’s role in maintaining national cohesion and stability in Iran.
