President Bola Tinubu has postponed his trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa and the AU-EU Summit in Angola due to security concerns.
The decision follows the abduction of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi State and an attack on Christ Apostolic Church worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State.
“I am depressed by the tragic death of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes,” President Tinubu said in a statement, expressing his sorrow over the recent attacks.
The President has ordered the deployment of more security personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, and directed the police to pursue the bandits responsible for the church attack.
“Everything must be done to bring the girls home safely,” President Tinubu reiterated, emphasising his commitment to rescuing the abducted schoolgirls.
Vice President Kashim Shettima has visited Kebbi State to commiserate with the victims’ families, and the President is awaiting reports from him, as well as updates from the police and the Department of State Services ² ³.
