Abuja, Nigeria – The Independent Broadcasting Association of Nigeria (IBAN) has conferred the 1st _IBAN PIONEERS AWARD_ posthumously on the late High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, founder and owner of Nigeria’s first private radio station, Raypower FM.
The award was presented by the Honorable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi, to Dokpesi’s son, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi Jr., at the 2nd AGM/CONFAB and broadcasters’ conference of IBAN, held at DAAR Communications Plc Headquarters, Abuja.
“Late Chief Dokpesi’s distinct foresight and indefatigable broadcast strides are a testament to his immense contributions to private broadcasting in Nigeria and the Nigerian broadcast media industry in general,” Malagi said.
Receiving the award on behalf of his late father, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi Jr., Executive Chairman of DAAR Communications Plc, expressed gratitude to IBAN, saying, “We are honored to accept this award on behalf of our late father. We assure IBAN that we will continue to support the independent broadcast industry.”
The conference, presided over by Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Tijjani Ramalan, Chairman of IBAN, was attended by several ministries, departments, agencies, regulators, local and foreign media houses, stakeholders, and collaborators.
The award is a recognition of Dokpesi’s pioneering role in shaping Nigeria’s broadcast media landscape and his commitment to promoting independent broadcasting.
