Kano Government Approves N54.7 Billion for Key Development Projects

The Kano State Executive Council has approved N54.7 billion for the execution of various development projects across key sectors of the state.

The commissioner for information and internal affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi-Waiyya, disclosed this while briefing journalists on Friday in Kano on the outcome of the council’s 34th meeting held on November 27.

He said the approvals covered infrastructure, education, health, housing, security and other priority areas aimed at accelerating development and improving service delivery.

Mr Abdullahi-Waiyya said the council considered and ratified submissions from ministries, departments and agencies, totalling N54,798,217,384.19.

The projects approved included the provision of operational vehicles for the polytechnic take-off committee in Gaya, augmentation for the construction of Unguwa Uku–Yanwaki–Limawa junction road, review of contract rates for four Sharia Courts, and the renovation of the Governor’s Lodge, Kwankwasiyya City.

Others were additional works at Government Technical Colleges in Dambatta and Ungogo, settlement of outstanding liabilities of Royal Tropicana Hotel, establishment of an Emergency Operations Centre at Government House, and construction of an official residence for the Chief Judge of Kano State.

The council also approved major road construction and rehabilitation projects including Rogo–Gwangwan–Sundu road, Gama road network, Sarkin Yaki Road in Fagge, Independence Road, Sokoto and Iyaka roads, as well as a 20-metre 3-span bridge in Rogo LGA.

He said N5.5 billion was approved for the completion of the 5km dualised road and other roads in Gaya, while more than N4.9 billion was set aside for the Rano–Saji road.

According to him, funds were approved for school renovation, furniture procurement for 13 LGAs, renovation of health facilities in Bichi, diesel supply for water facilities, installation of traffic control systems, procurement of security equipment and installation of surveillance gadgets at Government House.

In the health sector, N344.7 million was approved for routine immunisation for the fourth quarter of 2025.

Mr Abdullahi-Waiyya said the council deliberated on the Gwarzo–Tsaure–Tsanyawa road project and directed the Ministry of Works to submit a revised Bill of Quantities.

He said the council also discussed “inflammatory statements’’ credited to former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and deputy Senate president Barau Jibrin, describing them as capable of “undermining security efforts.”

According to him, the comments alleging the vulnerability of the state to banditry and proposing the recruitment of 12,000 individuals into a religious police outfit could incite unrest.

He said the council called for the investigation and arrest of the former governor over what it described as an “attempt to create an illegal militia group.”

Mr Abdullahi-Waiyya, however, commended the federal government and the security agencies for their continued support while urging public figures to refrain from making statements capable of creating tension.

He added that the council commended efforts of the committee assigned to ensure that allottees of houses in the Kwankwasiyya and Amana Cities and reminded allottees of the December 31 deadline to occupy their houses or risk revocation of ownership.

The meeting also featured the presentation of ‘Awards of Excellence’ to Gov. Abba Yusuf by various professional groups and associations.
