.....Says exercise has been concluded and current administration prioritizes development and harmony over hosting returnee receptions at this stage

Toto LG Boss Speaks on Return of Bassa, Other IDPs

The Executive Chairman of Local Government Area, Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya, has clarified that the internally displaced persons (IDPs), have officially returned to Toto LG on February 10, 2025.

Since then, the road has been open for all genuine Bassa and other IDPs to return without any hindrance. However, he emphasized that there are no arrangements or plans for another official receiving or ceremonial event for new returnees as has been speculated in some media reports.

Pharmacist announced that the displaced Bassa communities began their return to Toto Local Government Area from February 10, 2025, marking the end of their displacement after years of hardship.

He stressed the importance of sustaining peace and unity among the people, acknowledging the smooth and peaceful process since the return commenced without any disruption.

The chairman also highlighted his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and order in the area, which has helped facilitate the peaceful return and resettlement of IDPs.

“The council is focused on development and harmony rather than organizing further ceremonial receptions for returnees at this stage.”

The statement revealed that among the earlier returnees were HRH Dr. David Wodi Tukura, the Paramount Traditional Ruler of Bassa Chiefdom, all Bassa Village and Ward Heads, as well as Dr. Amb. Jimba Wodi, a prominent Bassa leader among other thousands of IDPs have safely returned to their communities.

The Executive Chairman of Toto LG wishes to state emphatically that there is no planned second coming, and the road to Toto LGA remains open and free for all geniue IDPs who wish to return in line with the directive of the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule.

The Council therefore reiterates that there should be no planned second coming or expanded coming, and all activities to that effect should be suspended with immediate effect.

The statement added that the Council will work closely with security agencies to strictly monitor the situation and ensure that no attempts are made to disrupt the ongoing peace-building efforts in Toto LGA.
