China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday, reaffirming Beijing’s commitment to expanding cooperation and strengthening the China–Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja highlighted the growing momentum in bilateral relations, with both sides praising the progress achieved in recent years and expressing readiness to broaden collaboration for the benefit of citizens in both countries.
Ambassador Yu stated that China–Nigeria relations have entered a “fast track,” attributing the progress to sustained engagement and mutual understanding at the highest levels of government. He noted that the two nations have consistently supported each other on matters relating to their core interests, stressing China’s continued backing of Nigeria’s efforts to combat terrorism and maintain national security.
Yu further underscored China’s willingness to work closely with Nigeria to accelerate the rollout of zero-tariff measures on Nigerian exports, a policy expected to stimulate trade and create new economic opportunities.
He added that both countries are committed to aligning their development strategies, enhancing strategic mutual trust, and advancing cooperation across priority sectors.
President Tinubu, in turn, commended China’s longstanding support for Nigeria’s development and emphasized the importance of deepening the strategic partnership. He welcomed renewed commitments from Beijing and reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to strengthen cooperation in areas that promote economic growth, security, and shared prosperity.
