KOICA Commissions Centre Of Excellence Vocational Institute In Lokoja

The Government of the Republic of Korea through its grant aid and technical cooperation agency KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) has successfully completed the 2nd phase project support to the Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute (NKFI) in Lokoja, Kogi State.

In 2015, the Korean government, through KOICA, established a “Centre of Excellence” Vocational Institute in Lokoja.

During the signing of the project completion documents by the KOICA Nigeria office Country Director Sungil Son said the Centre offers advanced technical skills in four areas: welding and fabrication, automobile engineering, electrical engineering, and information technology.

According to him, “the 2-year project support (2021 – 2023) was the second phase of the cooperation, following the successful completion of the first phase from 2010 to 2016.

“The event kicked off with a workshop to finalise the critical activities necessary for the improvement of the institute’s maintenance and operations”.

The Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute (NKFI) Rector Mr. Williams Charles Oluwatoyin also informed that a completion ceremony of the second phase project support was held at the institute’s premises on 20th July 2023.

At the Rector’s office, Mr. Sungil met with the Commissioner of Education, Science, and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, who expressed his gratitude to the Korean government for their unwavering support to the institute, as well as to the State at large.

The Commissioner assured the state government’s commitment to ensure that the objectives of the institute are met.
