The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intensified its fight against crime, arresting 23 suspects in a targeted operation at Ibaka Fishing Port over the weekend.
According to the state police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, officers recovered substantial quantities of substances believed to be illicit drugs, alongside other criminal items.
The operation, she explained, was a strategic night raid conducted on February 5 and 6, based on credible intelligence identifying criminal hideouts in the Ibaka area.
“During the raid, our operatives combed several known black spots at the port, resulting in the arrest of 23 individuals,” DSP John said.
“Among the items seized were large amounts of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, chemically enhanced variants of the drug, locally brewed alcoholic drinks, and devices used for inhaling hard substances.”
She added that investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspects’ criminal activities and to identify other members of the drug network operating in the region.
DSP John assured residents that the Ibaka axis remains calm, noting that police patrols and surveillance have been stepped up to prevent any resurgence of criminal acts. She reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy toward drug trafficking, abuse, and related crimes.
“The command will continue intelligence-driven operations across the state until all criminal black spots are neutralized,” she emphasized.
