The Federal Lawmaker representing Cross River Northern Senatorial District in the Upper Legislature, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe has stated that the 13.5 Kilometers road project linking the Ibil Community and the Federal Government Science College Ogoja, will be completed on schedule.
Senator Jarigbe gave the assurance when he led the contractor handling the road project back to site to resume the construction work which was suspended due to molestation of workers at the construction site by touts and security personnel purported sponsored by political opponents, prelude to the February 25th Elections.
Senator Jarigbe who was represented by his Constituency Liaison Officer, Mr Egar Mgbantul, tasked the contractor to ensure strict compliance with stipulated contractual specifications to guarantee a high-quality and durable road.
Speaking with SummitPost News on the development, a community leader in the area, Chief James Achara lauded the lawmaker for attracting the project to the area, noting that the road upon completion, will address the untold hardship being faced by commuters, while also boosting economic development by facilitating transportation of farm produces from farm settlements to the urban markets, given the agrarian occupation of the indigenes.
Chief Achara hinted that necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of human and material resources at the project location to wade off disruption stressing that timely completion of the project was paramount given the huge economic potential set to be harnessed when the road is completed.
The community leader posited that “we have taken ownership of the project. Workers, equipment, and materials are secured within our territory because our youths have been fully mobilised to that effect. Nobody can disrupt the execution of this laudable project.”
“We are quite appreciative of the passion of our Senator towards the economic emancipation of our people through the provision of social amenities like roads, electricity, and water which are quite needful to stimulate economic growth.”
About 11 kilometers of the road is set to be asphalted commencing from Ibil. With the resumption of work, the outstanding 2.5kilometerss Alladim/Muarranty axis linking the Federal Science College is billed to undergo rapid construction transformative stages before asphalting which is expected before December.
The road project is earmarked for inauguration by the first quarter of 2024.
