Climate Change: 25 Rotary Clubs Plant 1000 ‘Masquerade’ Trees In Gwagwala
In its determination to help mitigate the rising heat waves, occassioned by the effects of Climate Change, 25 Rotary Clubs in and outside Abuja, yesterday, August 14, 2023, donated and planted 1000 Masquerade trees in Gwagwala Area Council.
The gesture, according the President of Rotary International of Gwagwalada Rotary Club, FCT, Abuja, Rotarian Ayodele Steven, is aimed at helping to reduce the riding heat waves and inculcate tree planting habits in the people.
According to Rotarian Ayodele, “Rotary Club of Gwagwalada, played host to Rotary Clubs and our numerous partners as we show love to our community, planting 1000 trees in a single flag off ceremony along Nigeria Customs College Road, Gwagwalada.”
Briefing the press, Steven expressed satisfaction with the success of the project, assuring of its sustainability for the benefit of humanity.
In a speech, the District Governor Nominee and representative of Rotary International District 9125 in Nigeria, described tree planting as spiritual, with medicinal benefits.
President of all Club Presidents in Abuja, Rotarian Agwu Ijeoma Joyce described tree planting as way of life, and giving back most deserving respect to the Environment for out better living.
The event was graced by the number 1 traditional Ruler of Gwagwalada, His Royal Highness,  the Aguma of Gwagwalada, the FCT Comptrollers of Nigeria Immigration and Correctional Services, Area Commander of NDLEA, Centre  Director,  National Open University of Nigeria, Faculty of Agriculture, UniAbuja and Department of Forestry, Gwagwalada Area Council and numerous guests from all walks of life.
Statement made available to SummitPost explained that the partnership was coordinated by the Office of the Zone 2, District 9125 Chair of Supporting the Environment drawing partnership from PurpleHands empowerment Initiative, FCTA  Department of Parks and Garden, Forestry Department of Federal Ministry of Environment and P. I . B Global Services, the producer of Biochar Tree organic fertilizers.
