The former Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, Professor Joseph Albasu Kunini has commended the peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party congresses across the State culminating in the election of Alhaji Abubakar Bawa as the State Chairman of the party.
He made the commendations in Jalingo on Wednesday while interacting with Journalists congratulated the newly elected executives of the party and urge them to work to ensure unity, justice and fairness in the party.
He noted that though there were some minor challenges in some areas, the relatively peaceful conduct of the congresses from the ward level through to the State level is commendable and shows that the ship of the party is steered by an experienced captain.
“No exercise, no endeavour can be perfect and I can not say that the conduct of our congresses were perfect. However, you will agree with me that the congresses were relatively peaceful and smooth.
“Let me first of all commend the leader of our great party the All Progressives Congress APC His Excellency Governor Agbu Kefas for providing a level playing field for the congresses to hold without undue influence and interference. It goes a long way to show that he is truly a statesman who wants the best for the party and allows the people to chose leaders of their choice.
“I also want to congratulate the new Chairman of the party in the State Alhaji Abubakar Bawa and his entire team on their emergence as the State Working committee.
“The party is at a very critical moment and they have enormous responsibility to work assiduously to unite the party and build confidence in all members of the party. It is obvious that not everyone is happy with the outcome of the congresses. It is therefore the responsibility of the leadership to ensure that their grievances are addressed and they are brought on board to work for the common good of the party.
“I am aware of the fears of implosion within the party at all levels. Let me say that for us here in Taraba, that is completely far-fetched. Unity of purpose is our common goal and we are determined to put the party ahead of our individual interests. And so I don’t see and implosion happening. I am sure the capable hands that now lead the party will pursue this onerous goal vigorously to achieve desired objectives” Kunini said.
He urge politicians in the State to pursue their political ambitions objectively and with civility rather than heating up the polity unnecessarily ahead of the 2027 general elections.
