The Taraba State Government has issued a formal directive requiring all political appointees and public servants intending to contest in the forthcoming general elections to resign their positions in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026.
In a public statement released by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters and Special Duties, Rt. Hon. Josiah Sabo Kente, the government reminded officials of the legal requirement mandating resignation within the time prescribed by law before participating in party primaries or other electoral processes.
According to the statement, the Electoral Act 2026 stipulates that political office holders seeking nomination for elective positions must vacate their appointments prior to contesting.
