In a significant move to enhance healthcare delivery, the Kwara State Government has expanded its renewable energy project to multiple public hospitals, guaranteeing a stable and uninterrupted power supply for medical services across the state.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Monday by the Kwara State Hospitals Management Board and made available to journalists in Ilorin. The initiative underscores the administration’s dedication to building sustainable, climate-friendly healthcare infrastructure.
According to the board, the installation of solar inverter systems at these facilities marks a major step toward energy independence and improved patient care. The intervention ensures that hospitals are no longer at the mercy of the unstable national grid, allowing for consistent operations and better service delivery.
Under the first phase of this latest expansion, six major health facilities have been equipped with robust 30 KVA solar inverter systems to significantly boost their power capacity. The beneficiary hospitals are General Hospital in Share, Specialist Hospital in Jebba, General Hospital in Erin-Ile, General Hospital in Omu-Aran, Children’s Specialist Hospital in Ilorin, and the Essential Drugs Programme facility.
In a parallel effort to strengthen healthcare at the community level, seven additional health facilities received 10 KVA solar inverter systems. This upgrade is designed to ensure reliable electricity for both routine procedures and critical emergency interventions. The facilities benefiting from this phase include Cottage Hospitals in Iponrin, Alapa, Ilemona, Edidi, and Idofin Odo-Ashe, as well as General Hospitals in Agbamu and Oro-Ago.
The board attributed the widespread upgrade to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s sustained commitment to transforming the state’s health sector, noting that the administration continues to prioritise not just infrastructural upgrades but also sustainable solutions that guarantee long-term operational efficiency.
Echoing this sentiment, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Hospitals Management Board, Dr Abdulraheem Malik, reaffirmed the board’s strategic direction. He stated that the management remains dedicated to laying a long-term foundation for a resilient healthcare system through strategic planning and continuous improvement in operational efficiency, ensuring that the people of Kwara State have access to reliable, high-quality medical services.
