In a strategic move to fortify participatory democracy and enhance political inclusivity, Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has mandated all political appointees to return to their wards for direct engagement with the people.
The directive, which has garnered widespread acclaim across the state, aims to strengthen the connection between the government and the governed. By fostering direct interaction and feedback mechanisms at the community level, the initiative seeks to promote transparency and accountability.
According to a press statement issued by Comr. (Rotr) Rotimi Oke of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, the outreach is a swift implementation of this citizen-focused directive. In Aiyewa Ward, Kabba/Bunu LGA, appointees including Hon. Egbebi Kayode, Hon. Fedelis O. Bello, and Hon. Micheal Oluyoko heeded the call by organizing a parley with party members, stakeholders, and local residents.
The well-attended interactive session served as a platform for open dialogue, allowing community members to voice their concerns, share expectations, and express appreciation for the government’s ongoing efforts. In response, the leaders reaffirmed their dedication to effective representation and inclusive governance.
During the engagement, the trio reassured party faithful of the administration’s commitment to inclusivity. They stated that individuals not currently captured in appointments or beneficiary lists would be given due consideration in the future, emphasizing a people-centered approach to governance.
Demonstrating compassion and solidarity, the leaders distributed cash gifts to over 100 attendees, including ward executives and other party supporters who participated in the programme. This gesture was widely interpreted as a sign of responsive leadership and appreciation for the unwavering support from the grassroots.
This event underscores the Ododo administration’s dedication to participatory governance and its resolve to maintain continuous engagement with the electorate. It reinforces a core message of the administration: that no voice will go unheard and no supporter will be overlooked.
As political appointees across Kogi State continue to comply with this directive, such engagements are expected to significantly bolster party unity and reinforce public trust in the governance process.
