Amid ongoing internal deliberations, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has asserted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains unified, dismissing speculation of a factional divide ahead of the party’s forthcoming national convention.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday following an inspection of infrastructure projects, Wike acknowledged internal disagreements but maintained they do not constitute a split within the party.
“There is only one PDP. Some individuals may not be happy, but there is no faction,” he stated, emphasizing that reconciliation efforts can proceed concurrently with preparations for the convention.
In a related development, the Tanimu Turaki (SAN)-led National Working Committee, which has the backing of PDP governors, announced the commencement of a renewed reconciliation drive aimed at addressing grievances among party members.
Addressing reporters in Abuja on Wednesday, Turaki reported early progress in the initiative. “I can confirm that leaders of both sides, as of today, are working towards solutions. So reconciliation is ongoing, and all hope is not lost,” he said.
He added that efforts to foster unity gained momentum after what he described as the marginalization of elements benefiting from the party’s internal discord. “From last night, those who are benefiting from this crisis and who do not want reconciliation to work have been shut out. So from that time till this morning, both sides are making some progress,” Turaki explained.
He further appealed to party supporters to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could undermine the ongoing reconciliation process.
