
The number of casualties from the attack on Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State remains unclear, with conflicting figures emerging from authorities and residents.
While security sources confirmed that at least 14 people lost their lives in the late-night shooting, residents of the community claimed the death toll is higher, putting the figure at no fewer than 26.
The incident occurred when unidentified gunmen reportedly opened fire on people gathered at a popular bar in the area, leaving several others injured. The wounded victims were said to have been rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
In response to the violence, the Plateau State Government imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
The State Commissioner for Information described the attack as tragic and condemned the killing of innocent residents, assuring that security agencies have been deployed to track down those responsible.
Security operatives have since cordoned off the affected community and launched a search operation, while residents have been urged to remain indoors and cooperate with authorities.
