Musa Mohammed, the Accountant-General of Nasarawa State, has stepped down from his position to contest the 2027 governorship election. He made the announcement on Monday in Lafia during a rally where he formally declared his intention to run under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mohammed, who was appointed to the state’s finance role in 2023 by Governor Abdullahi Sule, cited sustained calls from residents as the driving force behind his decision to join the race.
“I have decided to sacrifice my stay in the office of the Accountant-General of Nasarawa State in response to your calls,” Mohammed told the gathering. “I have resigned my appointment. I appreciate my boss, Governor Abdullahi Sule, for approving my resignation to enable me to pursue this ambition.”
Addressing his supporters, he added, “I hereby accept your call and offer myself to contest the 2027 governorship election with your support.”
The former lawmaker pledged to build on the achievements of the current administration if elected.
Prior to his role as Accountant-General, Mohammed served as Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for two consecutive terms, from 2007 to 2015.
His resignation marks a significant political development in the state, positioning him as an early contender for the APC ticket ahead of the 2027 polls.
