The Coalition of Yobe-East Progressive Youths has announced the successful raising of N188 million in support of Senator Ahmed Lawan’s anticipated governorship campaign in 2027. Lawan, a former President of the Nigerian Senate, has yet to formally declare his candidacy.
The coalition’s leader, Dr. Yerima Goni, disclosed the figure on Monday during a fundraising event held in Damaturu. According to Dr. Goni, the initiative was designed to foster civic engagement and ensure the active and inclusive participation of young people and other critical stakeholders in the state’s political process.
He explained that the funds were generated through a combination of pledges, bank transfers, and direct cash donations. “Our group remains committed to advancing good governance and promoting youth involvement in leadership at all levels,” Dr. Goni said.
The event drew a large crowd, including young people, community leaders, supporters, and other political stakeholders from across Yobe State.
In his response, Senator Lawan commended the group’s efforts, describing the gesture as a testament to responsible citizenship. He noted that the donations reflect a passionate and grassroots-driven engagement with political leadership.
Although he has not made any formal declaration to run for governor, the former Senate President expressed his willingness to answer the call to serve the people of Yobe State, should the opportunity arise.
