Despite INEC Absence: ADC Concludes Convention, Ratifies Mark-Led NWC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) held its national convention in Abuja on Tuesday, where delegates voted decisively to amend the party’s constitution and formally adopt a new leadership structure.

Emeka Ihedioha, Chairman of the ADC Electoral Sub-Committee, announced that 1,576 delegates were accredited for the event, with 1,471—representing 94 percent—voting in favour of the amendments. “Distinguished delegates, by this result, the constitution of the African Democratic Congress has today been duly amended at this convention held at the Rainbow Event Centre, Abuja,” Ihedioha declared.

Prior to the vote, Olumide Apata, Chairman of the Legal and Convention Processes Committee, led the ratification of resolutions from the party’s 97th, 98th, and 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings. National Organising Secretary Chinedu Idigo outlined several key decisions, including a waiver on membership requirements, the suspension of zoning for executive positions, and the removal of the rule mandating that vacant offices be filled by candidates from the same zone.

The convention also ratified the dissolution of the National Working Committee led by Chief Ralph Nwosu, handing full control of party affairs to a new executive headed by David Mark.

In his closing remarks, Mark described the convention as “excellent” and declared it the starting point of the party’s push for national power. “Today marks the beginning of our journey to the Villa, and all of you here are part of this history. By next year, when we move to the Villa, I will remind you again,” he said.

Although the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not monitor the proceedings, the ADC proceeded with its congresses and convention, drawing party members and stakeholders from across the country as it builds momentum toward the 2027 elections.
