The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced a consequential adjustment to the campaign timeline for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election following a shift in the poll date.
In a press statement issued on Thursday and signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, the Commission recalled that it had earlier revised the election timetable, moving the Osun governorship poll by one week.
“Recall that on the 26th of February 2026, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election and adjusted the Osun State Governorship Election forward by one week from the 8th of August 2026 to the 15th,” the statement read.
INEC said the adjustment has affected the deadline for political campaigns in the state, bringing it in line with statutory provisions.
“As a result of this adjustment, the last day for political parties’ campaigns in the state is now midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in line with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which provides that campaigns shall end 24 hours prior to election day,” the Commission stated.
The electoral body urged all stakeholders to comply strictly with the updated schedule to ensure a smooth electoral process.
“The Commission urges all political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the revised timeline.”
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to credible elections across the country.
“INEC remains committed to the conduct of free, fair, credible and inclusive elections,” the statement said.
