President Tinubu Approves Minor Cabinet Reshuffle, Removes Edun for Oyedele

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, effecting changes in the Ministries of Finance and Housing and Urban Development.

According to a memorandum issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, the adjustments involve the reassignment of two cabinet members and the nomination of a new ministerial appointee.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has been directed to hand over his portfolio. He will be succeeded by Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State in the same ministry. Mr. Oyedele now assumes the role of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy.

In the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the incumbent minister, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has also been directed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry. Furthermore, the President has approved the nomination of Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma as a ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry.

The SGF’s memorandum stipulates that “all handing over and taking over processes should be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.”

Explaining the President’s decision, Senator Akume stated: “These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy for Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He noted that the President, in approving the reshuffle, acted fully within the powers conferred on him by Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).

President Tinubu thanked the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in all future endeavours.

Senator Akume also assured all cabinet members that “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”
