The member representing Boki Ikom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Victor Abang, has formally declared his intention to seek a second term in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Abang made the declaration in an address to constituents and party faithful, where he described his first tenure as a period of laying a solid foundation for sustainable development across the constituency.
“I stand before you not merely as your representative, but as your servant entrusted with your hopes, your voices and your collective aspirations,” he said. “With a deep sense of humility and responsibility, I formally declare my intention to seek your mandate for a second term.”
Reflecting on his time in office since his inauguration on June 13, 2023, Abang said his legislative activities had been deliberate and people oriented, noting that he sponsored several key bills and motions aimed at improving the welfare of his constituents.
According to him, the proposed legislations include bills for the establishment of a Federal College of Agriculture in Okundi, a Federal College of Education Technical in Ikom, and a Federal Medical Centre in Boki, among others.
He added that he also raised motions on issues such as boundary concerns between Nigeria and Cameroon, infrastructural development, and security challenges affecting communities within the constituency.
“These were not mere legislative exercises, but deliberate efforts aimed at securing tangible outcomes for our people,” he stated.
The lawmaker further highlighted his constituency projects, which he said cut across all 22 wards and covered sectors such as healthcare, education, rural electrification, water supply, agriculture and youth empowerment.
Abang noted that farmers had been supported with seedlings, agrochemicals and equipment to boost food production, while relief materials were distributed to vulnerable groups.
He, however, acknowledged challenges, particularly fiscal constraints at the national level, which he said slowed down the implementation of some projects.
“These are not excuses, they are realities we confront with strategy and resilience,” he said, expressing optimism that improved fiscal policies would enhance project delivery going forward.
Making a case for continuity, Abang argued that effective legislative performance improves with experience, warning against replacing a first term lawmaker with another newcomer.
“Sustainable impact is built on continuity, experience and the strengthening of institutional voice over time,” he said.
He assured constituents of his commitment to continue advocating for their interests at the national level if re elected.
“Leadership is not about perfection, it is about commitment. We will not relent. We will continue to amplify your voices and work tirelessly to secure greater opportunities for our constituency,” he added.
Abang also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Bassey Otu and the leadership of the APC in the constituency for their support.
“Together, we have built a foundation. Together, we can achieve even more,” he said.
