The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has fixed May 9, 2026, for its national convention.
The party also scheduled May 22, 2026, for the commencement of its primary elections for various elective positions.
In a letter dated April 15, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the party notified the electoral body of a revised schedule for its congresses and national convention ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The letter—signed by the NDC National Chairman, Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, and National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu—explained that while earlier dates had been communicated to INEC, the party reviewed the schedule “in its best interest.”
According to the revised timetable, the party outlined that its congresses will begin on May 1, 2026, starting with ward congresses across the country, including polling unit and community-level exercises where applicable.
This will be followed by Local Government Congresses: May 2, State Congresses: May 4, Zonal Congresses: May 6 and National Convention (Election of Party Officials): May 9.
The party urged INEC to deploy officials to monitor all stages of the process, reaffirming its commitment to due process and internal democracy.
