The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has moved to clarify media reports that a Federal High Court judgment removed its yet-to-be-inaugurated State Chairmen, insisting that the tenure of current executives remains unbroken.
In a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party acknowledged that Justice Joyce O. Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court delivered a ruling affecting the newly elected state chairmen. However, the ADC stressed that the congresses that produced those officials did not truncate the ongoing tenure of existing state executives, who will serve their full terms before any inauguration takes place.
“The leadership of the ADC has instructed its legal team to review the said judgment and advise the party appropriately,” the statement read.
The party had previously issued a communiqué after its congresses, clarifying that the election of new state chairmen would only take effect after the current executives’ tenure expires. The latest legal development, according to the ADC, does not amount to a sacking, as widely reported.
Further details on the court’s full decision and the party’s next steps are expected following the legal review.
