Kwankwasiyya, Obidients Hold Closed-door Meeting in Abuja as ADC Knows Fate Tomorrow

Leaders of the Kwankwasiyya and Obidient movements on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting in Abuja, in what appears to be part of ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, which lasted about three hours, took place at the national headquarters of the Obidient Movement following a solidarity visit by the Kwankwasiyya delegation.

Although details of the discussions were not disclosed, key figures at the meeting included a former AMAC chairmanship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Moses Paul, popularly known as Dr Mo, and activist Aisha Yesufu.

Speaking after the meeting, Kwankwasiyya National Coordinator, Habeeb Mohammed, called for unity and collective action to address Nigeria’s challenges.

He said, “It is time for everybody to stand and project Nigeria to become the country of our dreams. We need to nurture that dream and ensure it doesn’t die.

“The truth is that we need one another and must also be ready to work together. Those who believe this is just hearsay should realise that these committed Nigerians here are ready to build a better Nigeria, not for ourselves, but for future generations.

“We will be working together with our people in the Obidient Movement and other support groups like the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement. So, we want to thank you all for continuing the good work.”

Mohammed also urged Nigerians to rise above ethnic, religious, and regional divisions, stressing that unity remained key to national progress.

He further encouraged young people to stay actively involved in politics and civic engagement, describing them as critical drivers of national transformation.

Responding, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, said Nigeria’s greatest strength lies in its people, particularly their intellect and creativity.

“Let us mobilise, not demobilise. I am calling for renewed patriotism and productive citizen participation. I want everyone here to work together as a team.

“I also want to thank every one of our people who have been working tirelessly for over four years to ensure that this dream becomes a reality. It is also worthy to know that we have a friend and a brother leading the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

“From today onward, please let’s start having respect for all our leaders. Don’t insult anybody. All of them are important to this particular struggle. Nigeria needs everyone. We are also calling for all youths who are interested in making a new Nigeria possible.”

Tanko also emphasised the need for collaboration across political groups, noting that national development would require broad-based participation.

The meeting comes barely 24 hours after Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, held a closed-door meeting with Seyi Makinde in Ibadan.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, has intensified consultations across the country in recent weeks, meeting political leaders and stakeholders as part of moves ahead of the 2027 elections.

He was accompanied to the Oyo meeting by some Igbo elders, senators from the South-East, members of the African Democratic Congress, and other associates.
