TCN Holds 1st Female Staff Meeting, Conducts Staff Drill With Fire Service On Emergency Response

Female staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) have been charged to demonstrate professionalism in their official roles to enhance their presence and influence at work through confidence, discipline, and self-improvement.

According to a statement by TCN, the Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, Mrs Abiodun Afolabi Fadahunsi, gave the charge at the first TCN all female staff meeting on Tuesday, 28th April 2026, at TCN Headquarters, Abuja.

She described professional presence as a reflection of competence, credibility, and character demonstrated daily at work, noting that female employees must uphold the same standards of excellence and reliability that TCN expects in its operations.

“As women, we must be comfortable expressing our knowledge and making decisions within our scope. Whether in the control room, on site, or in management meetings, let us speak with clarity and confidence,” she said.

She encouraged women in the company to develop professional confidence and composure across all roles, technical or administrative; to maintain appropriate dress and personal presentation; to practise effective communication; and to respect organisational structure while remaining dependable and responsible.

Other speakers at the meeting included the General Manager, Legal/Company Secretary, Mrs Fatima Muhtar. In her presentation, _“Dressing Right: The Power of Corporate Appearance”_, she stressed that professional dressing shapes first impressions.

“Your appearance determines if people will listen to you. It creates opportunities. There must be structure in what you wear. A polished appearance communicates confidence even before you speak. Keep it simple, clean, and professional,” she said.

The General Manager, Medical, Dr Agatha Edet-Ademiluyi, spoke on _“Staying Healthy at Work: Managing Stress and Maintaining Good Hygiene.”_ She noted that “healthy habits improve work productivity” and urged staff to prioritise balanced nutrition, regular exercise, routine medical check-ups, breaks at work, and effective time management to prevent burnout.

“You deserve to show up for yourself. You power the nation; now it’s time to power yourself,” she concluded.

The maiden meeting also featured presentations by Mrs Mbah, the GM Public Affairs who spoke on Respect and Building Better Work Relationships, with emphasis on the need for all to understand boundaries while supporting each other. She noted that “respect is a daily choice and not a one time act” GM Monitoring and Evaluation Mrs Jane Okemini spoke on Promoting Transparency and Accountability the GM Corporate Security, Mrs Jemila Tani spoke on “Everyone’s Role in Workplace Security”

The attendee made up of all female staffs from various departments in the Corporate headquarters of TCN included the General Manager, Legal and Company Secretary, Mrs Fatima Muhtar; General Manager, Information and Communication Technology, Mrs Oludade Morie Omolola; General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah; General Manager, Medical, Dr. Agatha Edet-Ademiluyi; General Manager, Audit, Mrs Lubabatu Balaraba Yusuf among others

The event forms part of TCN’s ongoing efforts to promote gender inclusion and professional excellence across its workforce.

On the other hand, the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Department of TCN, in collaboration with the Nigerian Fire Service (NSE), conducted a fire drill at the Corporate Headquarters in Abuja to assess staff responses to emergency evacuation procedures during fire incidents.

The exercise, according to a statement, took place on Tuesday, 28th April 2026, began with the activation of the fire alarm system, prompting TCN staff, Federal Ministry of Power personnel, and visitors to evacuate the building to the designated muster point as part of a simulation aimed at testing emergency preparedness.

Addressing staff after the exercise, the General Manager, HSE, Engr Ahmed Rufai Ibrahim, described the drill as successful and commended the prompt response of staff, visitors, management, and fire service personnel. He noted that the exercise marked a significant step in strengthening emergency preparedness at the Headquarters.

Also speaking during the exercise, the Principal Manager (Fire Safety) in TCN, Mr Monday Johnson, commended staff on the orderly evacuation and called for regular drills to sustain awareness and readiness.

A representative of the Nigerian Fire Service, Kolade John, stated that the drill was a simulation and emphasised the importance of familiarity with evacuation procedures in public buildings.

He noted that fire incidents can occur at any time and underscored the need for constant preparedness.

The exercise underscores TCN’s commitment to ensuring a safe working environment and enhancing staff skills for effective emergency response, the statement noted.
