The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Wike-Backed Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Abdulraman Mohammed, has rejected the outcome of an alleged 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and the reported constitution of an interim leadership.
In a statement issued by the factional party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, the NWC said no such NEC meeting chaired by Sen. Adolphus Wabara was convened by the recognised leadership of the party.
He stated that any resolutions purportedly reached at the meeting were null, void and of no effect.
According to the statement, the PDP constitution does not provide for the establishment of a caretaker or interim committee.
The NWC further argued that even if such a meeting had the legal backing to hold, it failed to comply with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, particularly the requirement to give the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at least 21 days’ notice.
It added that there was no evidence of compliance with this requirement, nor was INEC present at the meeting, rendering its outcome invalid.
The statement also raised concerns over the involvement of Sen. Wabara, alleging that he had been expelled at ward level for anti-party activities following his support for the election of Gov. Alex Otti.
The NWC described attempts to attribute authority to the Board of Trustees (BoT) as misleading, noting that the body is advisory and lacks executive powers.
It urged regulatory authorities to take note of the development and called on party members and the public to disregard the meeting and its resolutions.
The committee reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the party’s constitution and democratic principles under its current leadership.
